Red Carpet // Makeup
This is a BIG week - Oscar week!! I've always loved the Oscars, mainly for the red carpet. I know I am not alone in my love of red carpet fashion, but there really is something so exciting about it. Seeing who takes big risks, who plays it safe and who debuts a new style is, strangely, a lot of fun.Sadly, I can't play dress up with Oscar gowns to recreate my favorite styles. That being said - I can recreate makeup looks!!Full disclosure - I know very little about makeup. I'm a basics girl day-to-day. But this is the year for trying new things, so when Borghese sent me a box full of Red Carpet Ready makeup, I thought, why not?So, without further ado, here are 3 of my favorite Oscar looks from the last few years, and my attempts to re-create them.I started each look with my normal base layer (base layer? is that a makeup term?) Which is:
- bareMinerals Stroke of Light, Eye Brightener
- Sephora Skin Perfect CC cream (with SPF 20!)
- bareMinerals Mineral Veil, Finishing Powder
And then I built each look on top of that!
For Jennifer Lawrence's elegant look, I added some blush under my cheek bones (using Borghese's Angled Blush Brush and Laura Geller Blush -N- Brighten in Apricot Berry.) Next I used Borghese's double ended Eyeshadow and Dome Smudge brush to work on the smokey eye. For that I used Borghese eyeshadows in Afterglow, Impact and Torch.
Then, I lined the outer corners of my eyes with Borghese's liquid eye-liner (first time in my life using liquid eye-liner FYI - it was not as scary as I thought it would be!) I pumped up my lashes with Makeup Forever's Smokey Lash mascara, And I finished off the look with Borghese ColorGlass in BrightSide.
For Sanda's look I focused blush on the apples of my cheeks (I used bareMiniarals blush in Golden Gate for this). Then I did a slightly softer eye using Borghese shadow in Bask, Muse and Torch. And I pulled the eyeliner all the way around my eyes. (Also hit the lashes with a heavy coating of mascara.)
To get her bright lip, I used Revlon lipstick in Lilac Champagne topped with Borghese ColorGlass in Spark.
Last up - Emma!I softened the cheek color a bit for Emma's look, but kept the Sandra eye as a base. Then I layered darker shadows on top (aptly named Smolder and Scorch) and focused the liner on the top lid.
For Emma's lip, I started with MAC lipstick in Satin and topped that with Borghese gloss in Darkling.
Ta-Da!! I think I'm totally ready to become a beauty blogger ;)Which Red Carpet makeup look is your favorite?I was most comfortable with JLaw's look, but I did really love the bright pink lip as well - something a little out of my normal zone, which is nice now and then!
